Stranded on a wild, untamed island after a devastating shipwreck, two groups of feline survivors rise from the depths of tragedy. ShoalClan, born from the steadfast resolve of three cats who kept vigil by the shore, and EmberClan, forged in defiance amidst the fiery shadows of a dormant volcano, now struggle to coexist. What began as a bond of survival has unraveled into bitter resentment, leaving the two clans locked in an uneasy rivalry. Will they ever find peace, or will the island's secrets deepen the divide? The choice is yours—shape the destiny of Warriors: Distant Shores!
Our dice system for the most part is optional, however, for battles and certain events using the dice may be mandatory. Overall, using the dice is meant to be fun and to add splashing elements of risk, reward, and uncertainty to roleplay.[break]
▶
Members are expected to communicate with each other in places where dice are in play. This is to ensure that powerplaying does not happen during combat.[break]
▶
Good sportsmanship should also be exercised by all members as dice are agreed to be used with all parties involved using the dice at their own risk. [break]
▶
Dice may only be rolled once. Deleting and reposting accuracy or damage rolls to obtain for higher outcomes is cheating and is not allowed. [break]
▶
Health is more properly explained in the combat section but when a character's health reaches 0 they cannot fight any further.
It is up to the roleplayer to narratively decide if their character is retreating or conceding. Characters do not die when their health hits 0 unless the character is pre-plotted to die in the combat by the owner of the character.
[break]
▶
For combat, the following form is required for each post in threads where dice are being used for attacks.
Attack Action: Write the desired attack being performed in the fight here. Accuracy Roll: [*roll=1d20+/-modifiers] Damage Roll: [*roll=1d12+/-modifiers] Character HP: Character HP
- In order to roll the dice remove the asterisks symbols (*) from the code - Fill in any age or earned stat modifiers.
▶
Any misuse or abuse of the dice system should be reported to staff via a direct message on Discord.
Modifiers are simple integers added or subtracted from your dice roll that must be applied within the command to roll. [break]
▶
As your character ages and earns more experience they become more likely to succeed in their endeavors. To account for this, we have modifiers automatically for a character’s age and modifiers that can be earned by redeeming threads for extra stats in certain categories. [break]
Information on how to redeem extra stats can be found here.
▶
Members can also choose to give their characters with injuries, disabilities, or illnesses negative modifiers in addition to any other modifiers to reflect their condition. This can usually be expressed as a -1 for minor hindrances or -2 for characters experiencing a major hindrance.[break]
You can use dice rolls based on a 20-sided die to perform action checks for success or failure for actions such as hunting, combat, herb collecting, or sea glass collecting for ShoalClan cats.[break]
Simple Action Checks
[break][break]
▶
You can use a single 12-sided dice to check for success or failure on certain actions such as climbing, lying, flirting, certain skill checks, or perception checks. [break]
▶
For these types of rolls you should only use the character’s age modifier with no added earned stats. This is totally optional but the system is in place for roleplayers to use if they wish to.
Action check dice rolls of 6 or higher allow the character to succeed in the desired action.
Dice rolls 5 or below will result in the character failing to perform the desired action.
[Action] Roll: [*roll=1d12+/-modifier]
[break] - [Action] can be replaced with words such as climbing or whatever the dice roll is for. - In order to roll the dice remove the asterisks symbols (*) from the code - Fill in any age modifiers.
Example: Climbing Roll: [*roll=1d12+1]
Climbing Roll: C9h7040A1d12+1
Result: Character succeeds at climbing the tree or object they were attempting to climb.
For hunting you will roll two 20-sided dice, one roll for tracking prey and one roll for catching. Both of these dice will use age + any earned accuracy stats for modifiers.[break]
▶
Roleplayers may choose what prey their character is hunting so long as it makes sense for the setting and season of the island.[break]
Season Modifier
[break][break]
▶
For only the tracking roll there is an additional modifier based on the season that must be used, these values are listed below.[break]
Season

[break]
Tracking dice rolls of 6 or higher will succeed in tracking prey. Dice rolls 5 or below will result in the character failing to track any prey.
Catching dice rolls of 11 or higher will succeed in catching the prey. Dice rolls 10 or below will result in the character failing to catch the prey.
▶
In cases where a character succeeds in the first tracking roll but fails the second catching roll, an additional character may omit a tracking roll and instead just preform a catching roll to attempt to catch what the initial character tracked.[break]
- In order to roll the dice remove the asterisks symbols (*) from the code - Fill in any age modifiers, any earned accuracy stats, and apply a season modifier to the tracking roll only.
Example: A warrior hunting in leaf-fall who is 25 moons old and has no earned extra accuracy stats.
Result:Character succeeds at tracking prey but they failed to catch the prey. Whoever they're hunting with can try to roll a catching roll to attempt from them to catch the prey instead.[break]
When dice are to be used, they should be rolled prior to writing a post. You can post empty character posting templates containing dice rules then write your post based on your roll. This is so that you can go back in later and paste your completed post above the dice roll.[break]

A break down on the four parts of the form is as follows:[break]
Attack Action: The matter in which your cat is attempting to damage their opponent or adversary, this is up to you. These can also be referred to as battle techniques or battle moves. Examples: Belly Rake, Forepaw Slash, Leap-and-Hold, etc.
[break]
Accuracy Roll: This is a 20-sided dice roll that determines whether a move is successful or not. For this roll age modifiers and any earned accuracy stats apply.
If the total after all modifiers are accounted for is 5 or lower, the attack is unsuccessful.
If the total after all modifiers are accounted for is 6 or higher, the attack is successful.
[break]
Damage Roll: If an accuracy roll determines a successful attack your character will get to land damage on the opponent. A 12-sided dice roll is used to roll for damage. This is the amount of health points (HP) that the opponent will lose from the attack. For this roll age modifiers and any earned strength stats apply.
[break]
Character HP: Your character’s health points or commonly referred to as ‘HP’ reflects a cat’s overall stamina in a fight or battle. A character can choose to retreat at any point or not retreat at all from a fight. HP values should be updated for every new post during combat as damage is taken. Characters can earn additional HP through earned vitality stats.
Upon reaching below ½ HP posts should begin to reflect exhaustion at least in some way.
Upon reaching 0 HP a character can no longer fight and may choose to either blackout or retreat from the loss fight. A character does not die upon running out of health points during a battle unless the member would like them to die.

Apprentices: 6 - 12 moons

Special Cases in Combat
[break][break]
▶
The accuracy roll can roll either a critical success or critical failure that will need to be confirmed in battle by another dice roll.[break]
A critical success is when the dice command rolls a 20 without looking at the total after the modifiers.
A critical failure is when the dice command rolls a 1 without looking at the total after the modifiers.
▶
For both of these cases we require that another [*roll=1d20+/-modifiers] is rolled to either confirm or unconfirm the crit.[break]
In order to do this, edit the post and between your damage roll and character HP add another line of code to roll a new die. Mark this new roll as ‘Crit Confirm’ and save the changes to see the result.
Critical Success (Natural 20)
[break][break]
▶
If your confirm roll is 11 or higher with modifiers you will confirm the critical success and your attack will deal an additional 6 damage to your opponent. [break]
▶
If your confirm roll is 10 or lower with modifiers you fail to confirm the critical success. Your character still goes through with their attack but they do not get any extra additional damage.[break]
Critical Failure (Natural 1)
[break][break]
▶
If your confirm roll is 10 or lower with modifiers you will confirm the critical failure and your character will take 6 damage to themselves. Defense stats do not lessen critical failure self-damage.[break]
▶
If your confirm roll is 11 or higher with modifiers your character does not confirm the critical failure. They still miss their attack but do not take any self-damage.[break]
▶
If a character's original accuracy roll is a success with modifiers despite rolling a nat 1 they may still attack if they roll 11 or higher with modifiers and don’t confirm a critical failure.
For example an accuracy roll result of 1+5=6, where 6 is a successful attack, and the confirming dice rolls a 13 with modifiers because a 6 or greater total is required for a successful accuracy roll.

Damage Interpretation
[break][break]
▶
Members are free to interpret the severity of the damage their own character receives in combat. Below we have a suggested range for how damage can be interpreted with some examples: [break]
Suggested Severity
Damage Range
Minor Damage: Little to no bleeding, some bruising may occur, no scarring
1-7
Moderate Damage: Noticeable light bleeding or bruising, usually won't scar
8-14
Major Damage: Noticeable and steady bleeding from wounds that may scar or lead to heavy bruising
15-19
Debilitating Damage: Shock inducing amounts of bleeding, deep wounds that will scar, broken bones, loss of an ear or eye
We use foraging rolls to express a character's skill or perhaps affinity with being able to find things on the island. This system is used for both herb collecting and sea glass collecting for ShoalClan cats. [break]
Foraging rolls may also be used in different ways or special cases relevant to site events.
▶
Foraging rolls use age modifiers, season modifiers, and any earned foraging stats. [break]

Herb Collecting
[break][break]
▶
For herb collecting a 20-sided die is rolled with age, season, and foraging stats for modifiers. The results will reflect the quality of herbs found: [break]
Herb Collecting Roll: [*roll=1d20+/-modifier]
[break]
Herb collecting dice rolls of 6 or lower will fail in discovering any herbs.
Herb collecting dice rolls of 7 or higher will succeed in finding or collecting herbs.
However, there are varying quality levels of the herbs depending on the result of the roll, quality ranges can be found below:
Quality
Range
None: Your search leads to nothing. Hmmm…maybe it’s worth checking another area?
0 - 6
Low Quality: You found some herbs! Oh….upon closer inspection you notice that the leaves are wilted and faded. It doesn’t look like it will be very useful. Oh well! At least, they’ll get the job done.
7 - 11
Mid Quality: You found some herbs! They don’t look to be in the best of shape and probably won’t be the most effective, but they are still useable.
12 - 16
High Quality: You found some herbs! Congratulations! These herbs are in fantastic condition and will be very effective.
